Our Barn Shop is open Wednesdays-Sundays. The Shop's last day of the season will be Friday November 7th!

Pastured Meats

We raise 100% Katahdin meat sheep. Our delicious grass-fed lamb can be found in the Farm Shop. Learn more about our pastured meat program, or reserve a whole lamb for pickup in April 2026 here.

I have a bit of extra garlic after planting my beds. If anyone wants a pint, for planting or cooking, message us. $15. We also have beets, watermelon and daikon radish, and a few butternuts.

Happy last day of farm shop season to me!! (I celebrated by making time for @yogabargreen for the first time in 6 months haha.) THANK YOU for another great year offering up tasty healthy local things to our community! 🥰

Today, I got a phone call from a distressed dog owner telling me that her dog had taken down part of our electric sheep fence and one of the boys had gotten out. An inconvenience, but things happen, especially when you try to farm in a public park, and I appreciated the heads up.

Within 10 minutes our friend Jack was heading out to the pasture to fix things. He couldn't find the missing sheep at first, but happened to pass the pond as he searched. He found it neck-deep in the mud, with a dog going after it. He chased off the dog and went into the muck to drag out the sheep. This thing was half dead with fear. He basically had to drag/carry it all the way back to their fence. He checked the muck-covered ram lamb for injuries, and luckily didn't find anything obvious.

This dog had a leash and collar on, but no owner in sight, no one calling for it. A completely bizarre situation, but honestly, we are lucky that something along these lines doesn't happen more often. EVERY DAY we see MULTIPLE dogs off leash at the park. Some people are apologetic and will leash their dog when asked, others are defensive. We've even heard an aggressive "This is a public park! I can do whatever I want!" out of one man. (Completely untrue of course.) So I don't bother confronting people about the rules very often. But this is far from the first time that one of our sheep or chickens has been chased (or in one case, killed) by an off-leash dog. I've also been told by at least one person that they won't visit Southgate Park, because they're afraid of dogs, and so many people feel entitled to walk their dogs off leash here.

Just because your dog is well-trained, sociable around other dogs, bikes, and children DOES NOT mean anything for how it will behave around farm animals. And even if your animal is completely cool, you are normalizing it for other people to have their dogs off leash. Sometimes, just having a big scare is enough for chickens and sheep to die the next day, even without major injuries. We love being our community's little farm, we want to be here for a long time, and we hope to continue to have farm animals on the property. So please, leash your dogs. 😓

We went out to the garden to assess things and close gates this evening. Upon discovering ANOTHER half dozen squash that were damaged or destroyed by groundhogs or rabbits, I said that's it, we're harvesting all of them, right now. Lucky for me, the 3-year-old was very excited about this task.

It's our most lackluster winter squash harvest ever. The animals were relentless this year, the drought won't stop, and I completely oops'ed on fertilizing them. But hey, at least there's some good butternuts in there. (And like 3 acorn squash.) 😅 They need to be cured for 10 to 14 days, so they will probably debut just in time for Twisted Wilderfest next weekend. 🥰

Our 3rd annual potato harvest day with GHS's student municipal representatives was another hit. It was a gorgeous day Saturday, and a great group of kids. They brought in several hundred pounds of potatoes in about an hour. Many hands! As the saying goes 😄

Apparently, the pretty little moth in the first pic wasn't originally found this far north but has followed the spread of the invasive tree of heaven, its caterpillar's host species. I learn new things every day paying attention outside! 🙂 Should I keep sharing random nature facts or stick to the local food stuff guys?

It's hard to find time in August to post, or generally communicate, or sleep, so here are some produce highlights in our shop right now! Maybe I'll actually remember to take some pictures in the fields tomorrow.

If you like shishito peppers, we have bags of them going for $5 right now. If you haven't tried them, they are sometimes called the Russian roulette of peppers, because 1 in 10 has some heat, and there's no way to tell which one. They are a versatile app or side dish.

Anyone else finding bebe tree frogs everywhere lately? Maybe they just know how much I love them 😍🐸

We chopped up 5 different colors of heirloom tomatoes the other day for a little caprese sampler. 🤤 These long hot days will be gone before we know it folks! Savor while you can. ❤️

It was a beautiful foggy farm morning today

Feeling hella grateful for family and farm sitters after a *gorgeous* week at the beach. This was my first summertime trip with my parents in 10 years, because... farming. But your kids are only little for a little while, and this girl was a super-sandy superstar. Yes, our tomatoes have completely overtaken their supports. Yes, the weeds are wild. Yes, it was worth it. 💚

Annual garlic day post!! Such a satisfying task. Green garlic is being sold in the shop while the rest cures.

Summer is officially here! And so much is coming into season right now. Always free from all the chemicals and nasty stuff. I got into growing food, in part, because I wanted to eat well! Want to try a CSA share? Ask us how. Or make your selections yourself: The shop is open 9-dusk except for Mondays and Tuesdays.

Garlic scape season is here!! And fresh lettuce is currently hitting the shop. Open all day and tomorrow too.

I think awkward forced farm photographs are my new favorite thing. Thanks for all the help the last couple weeks Sam and Kavita! You guys are why we love being a host farm for @wwoofusa!

We had a fun delivery this week! In a moment of panic over aphids on my seedlings, I ordered a bunch of beneficial insects a few weeks ago. As it turned out, maybe unnecessary, because when I moved the seedlings outside, all the aphids were gone overnight. 💪 I know we already have a decent population of green lacewings in the garden, but still! Can't hurt to turn some more generalist predatory insects loose! The second picture is green lacewings eggs. Happy gardening!

Happy Mother's Day everyone! I'm feeling like one lucky lady. It was a fun weekend, hosting Mommy & Me Yoga in the barn, spending much needed time with friends and family, and of course FARMING! I am tired in a good way. Thanks for a great opening week!!

Feeling thankful for another lovely volunteer event yesterday! GHS's Student Municipal Representatives helped us clear out a barn and plant scallions and tunnel tomatoes. What a great group of kids! Spring is ramping up on the farm. Happy Easter 🤍

More farm babies this week! Some of our friendliest in a while, likely because of our obsessed small child. Should we start the incubator back up? Does anyone want to order some barnyard special chicks? It just takes three weeks for them to hatch! Ours are a mix of breeds with lots of different egg colors possible. Skip the commercial hatcheries this spring if you want to start/add to your backyard flock. 🐣🐤🐥

Southgate Salad! 🥗 (Those roast beets were soooo good!) LAST CHANCE to place an order before Thanksgiving! We'll be fulfilling orders through Saturday, then headed out of town for the holiday. We had a great harvest today, and we guarantee greens will look 100% for at least 10 days! Spinach, arugula, zesty mix & lettuce mix... Beets, carrots, celery & more! This is your annual reminder to not let those decorating pumpkins go to waste! Pumpkins are a great natural dewormer and treat for livestock. We are happy to take any donations at the gate. If you want to take the kiddos and throw one to the animals yourself, you are welcome to do so too. 😊🎃

We are located within the city of Green's Southgate Park. You can see what we are up to anytime the park is open. Just park at the Mount Pleasant trailhead and enjoy a beautiful walk through the farm and park!

When the gate and shop are open, please feel free to drive to the barn and park there.
